6.2L Engine replacement

Add me to the list. Bought mine in 22. Was driving it last Saturday with my 81 year old mother in the passenger seat. Vehicle shutdown and had to coast over to the side of the road. Towed to dealership who called me yesterday saying the engine was seized and needed replacing. Said they're on backorder. Any ideas on how long it's taking to get the new engines? Really disappointed with GM here.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it's not a long wait. Unfortunately, the numbers are growing. It's painful to watch here, but it's a lot more prevalent on Reddit, where it cuts across the entire line of GM vehicles.

Here's my recap from another thread:

I've had mine for a bit more than a year (2024 in Slate Grey - love that color). Sitting at idle Friday night 3/7/25 truck was running fine, waiting with my wife for a table at one of our favorite burger joints, on the phone with my son... With no warning, the engine starts shaking and sputtering like it's trying to disassemble itself and then dies 15 seconds later. I have babied this thing, and was really happy with the V8 power and the suspension. Now I'm some combination of bewildered, depressed and pissed off.

I went to see the service rep in person today (that was 3/13). They have 4 other 6.2s in line ahead of me for replacement. Best guess is 2-4 months.

Talked to the service manager earlier this week (that was 3/24). Looks like a top end rebuild instead of a new engine. From what I was told, there was a piston failure that will require replacing two pistons and a bunch of valves (looks like valve parts were found in the cylinder).

Now I need some advice (this from my post on 3/26)... I told the dealer that regardless of what GM told them (GM told the dealer to rebuild, not replace the engine), I didn't pay all that money last year (cash, not financed) for a rebuilt engine. I paid for a new engine and I want it replaced, and i want the powertrain warranty reset to zero. The service manager said she would insist on that too, but they could only do what GM said was covered under warranty, and that's a rebuild. She gave me the number and I took it up with GM, and told them the same thing. Waiting to hear back now. Should I continue to insist on a new engine, or is a rebuild just as good at this point?

Talked to GM Customer Service today (4/4) for the second time. They are adamant that they will not replace the engine - just rebuild it. Now I'm going to get a truck back that is one step from a "branded" title. Have you ever seen this advertisement: "For Sale, 2024 Silverado ZR2, not a scratch on it, new Undercover bedcover and DuHa underseat lockable storage plus other good stuff, rebuilt engine." Wait... WTF? Rebuilt engine? I was a Chevy fanboy after owning a Colorado ZR2 3.6 for 4 years. And I couldn't be more pissed off right now.

Get it fixed and trade it in. The replacement motor is just another ticking time bomb 💣

It's gonna cost some dollars, but you need to retain an attorney and see if they'll write a letter to GM and the dealer seeking remedy for a new motor. If you can find one that will do this for a base fee, it might not cost much. A lot of lawyers today want a retainer fee and that can be anywhere from $3-12k+ depending upon your case. I believe if you retain an attorney and your state laws favor your position, GM will charge their mind quickly.

GM really needs to get their $hit together!
Yep, my fear when I see a post like this last one is that GM is now starting to feel the financial and logistical costs of replacing motors and doing buybacks. So now they are gonna half ass the repairs to get customers past warranty and then charge more for future repairs and motors to recoup losses.

I've loved my Chevys for approaching 4 decades, but this is some real bullshit they are jamming down our throats.

Yeah I read some stories from Escalade owners who paid $130K and aren’t getting a loaner due to the stress on the dealership “system”. Talk about some pissed off folks. This is starting to do some brand damage.
