Yeah, don't wanna pay that much just to disable the Auto Stop. I'll just push the button when I start the truck.

There is also the auto stop eliminator if you wanted to go that route.

when reading about @KLA's issues with the autostopstart module, it reminded me of the following from the AE039 PITA part i installed:


Our switch-based design avoids all of the negative side effects because it interacts with the vehicle exactly as GM intended. Don't be fooled by the hacks that:

• Require warranty voiding software changes
• Drain the battery
• Disable Active Fuel Management (AFM)
• Keep the vehicle in "diagnostic mode" which disables the malfunction indicator light (check-engine light) and can interfere with airbag functionality. (Every GM diagnostic port auto start/stop device we've seen has this major flaw.)
• Hack the battery management system
• Interfere with remote start systems
• Sure our solution may take a few extra minutes to install, but avoiding all of the negative side effects is well worth it.

Likely just a sales pitch, but KLA's issues with the other one makes me feel a bit better about the one I went with.

You have a pretty damn good point. Didn't think i would have any of those problems, but you all see what happened. But I didn't pay much for it. Bought it from a forum member, so I didn't lose much. It was nobody's fault and it was worth a shot. In my case, it just didn't work out. No big deal. I'll just pass it along to someone else that can use it.

Things happen, a rock just came out of no where today and cracked my windshield. The day I am Supposed to get tinted SMH.

I appreciate you sharing, I think I’ll hold off until I do a bit more research. Might just end up going the interior route.

Yeah I had PPF applied to my last windshield to prevent this was considering doing it on the truck but was not fast enough.

Going to see if they can patch it and call it day. Luckily my mirror hides it when in the driver seat.

The windshields must be thin, mine cracked 2 weeks after I got my 2025 when an acorn fell out of a tree overhanging the road.

Mine has a few chips in it from the previous owner. Damn glad they aren’t like my wrangler. I had 4 windshields in it in two years lol.

Yeah it’s unfortunate. Although I did get hit pretty hard by that rock, it came flying across a freeway, I am assuming it’s from a bus.

I like the PPF for the windshield Honestly. It’s usually 200 bucks for a windshield where I am at. (Although some places will gladly charges $500+) And it gives peace of mind.

I’ll probably hold off though if this crack repair does not look good. We will see

Sorry about the rock. Same thing happened to my 2015 Silverado. But it happened the very next morning after I bought it. Bought the truck, got home at 10pm, on my way to work the next morning at 6am a rock cracked my windshield. I was pissed!!!!

But I guess that is what insurance is for.

I had the autostop eliminator on mine. The one that installs behind the screen. It just plugs in and wasn't hard to do. It does look complicated because of taking the dash apart. But it's really not hard to do. Also a perfect time to put a screen protector on the dash cluster. I had mine for 20k miles, no issues worked perfectly.

Sucks about the rock. If it makes you feel any better. I had a large rock come down from a overpass and crack mine on my 1500 when it was still pretty much new. I then had a service truck on a narrow bridge clip my tow mirror with his bed on my HD with in the first two weeks of owning it . New trucks are magnets for crap like that. I've had two windshields get cracked in my life. Both were on new vehicles before the first oil change.

I have some pretty bad luck with windshields getting cracked in the first week then never happening again for as long as o have the car. I am hoping that is the case here!

That's interesting, I do a lot of Interstate driving and have picked up my share of rocks in other vehicles. Wondering how many people have done this and how well it works?

You just want to make sure the PPF is designed for a windshield otherwise you may get some distortion. Overall I had it done on my Supra and it has saved me a few times. I think like any PPF, a rock can still bust through but I figure the PPF will significantly take off the edge and prevent chips.

By the way the rock chip repair looks like trash, I was expecting the company to try and do their best to not only patch it but attempt to make it appear visually better. Nope! they just simply patched it. I should have gone with the smaller companies that take the time to make the resin seep into the cracks for a better visual result.

I know nothing ever makes the chip go away but there has been some nice fixes I have seen.
