Deciding Between ZR2 and Trail Boss LT - Help

It sure is. Damn! That's too much of a pain in the ass.

I bought an Auto Stop Override Module from a forum member and it was a simple 5 minute install. 1 plug under the hood by the battery and 1-10mm nut to hold a ring terminal on the negative battery terminal. And it works perfectly. And didn't have to tear apart half of the interior.
Thanks for the recommendation I’ll look into this one, seems like a simple solution!

Plus if I ever need a warranty claim it could be a quick removal.

Yes....the SmartStopStart module that @securityguy and @The_Q both linked is the module that I bought from a forum member. It is a simple 5 minute instal as I described in my earlier post and it works perfectly.

1 plug and 1 ring terminal right by the battery. And they even supply you with a nut to go right on to the extra threads on the negative terminal clamp, so you don't have to take anything off, and give you a 10mm wrench to tighten the nut. Very very easy to install.

Looks like this is the one I’m going with!

Damn that’s a lot to disassemble.
Do not get this one. PITA to install. This one is a 5-minute install in the engine bay at the battery. Much better solution but a bit pricier. I was the first to install this and then many have followed based on its ease of install.

Or get the RANGE DFM module that also gives Auto S/S functionality.
well, damn, should have searched a bit more on the forum.

it wasn't a huge PITA to install, although obviously more involved than the plug and play you guys went with, only took around 10 minutes and was fulfilling to tear all of that apart to see how everything looks behind all of those covers.

i'm kidding, while it wasn't necessarily a huge PITA and gave me something to mess with one day when a bit bored, it took me half an hour to 45 minutes, and who gives a shit what's behind those panels. if yore reading this spoiler and still ciphering whether to go with the one these guys posted or the one i did, are you stupid or slow? go with theirs ffs . . .

My Colorado has a switch I just touch when I start it as the Tahoe has a button on the side to touch. The 2500 oil burner does not have this the auto stop feature which is a good thing. Now that I have gotten used to pushing the disable switch/button it not really an issue at least for me.

the silverados have a button to turn the auto stop eliminator off, also. these modules simply remove the requirement that most won't remember to do every single time they start the vehicle. kudos if you remember to hit the button every time, though. i never did, it'd be setting at a stoplight and the engine would stop before i remembered i needed to press the button. no more.

I wonder if the Carbyte would work with the diesel? It’s any easy obd pluggin for the gassers, and also being able to read codes is a nice benefit.
I don’t have a babymax so don’t care enough to contact them but I do wonder.
I don't believe that one is designed for the new ECM architecture.

Update on the SmartAutoStop Module:
I removed the SmartAutoStop Module. The remote start would not work with neither the key fob or my phone with the GM app yesterday morning. And, for some reason, the climate controll wouldn't work properly. Removed the AutoSmartStop Module and everything is back to normal and works as it should. I don't know why this all happened. Maybe the Module is starting to go bad. Not sure. All I know at this point is that with the Module plugged in my climate control didn't work properly and the remote start would not work at all. Removed the Module and everything works as it should.

No big deal. I'll just press the Auto Stop button to shut it off every time I start the truck. These trucks have so much tech and electronics on them, I don't wanna take a chance on screwing anything up. So....no Auto Stop Module for me.

Could always get the DFM module instead.

Now regarding my break in period, I’m going to do my first oil change at 1k, any other things I should address?
Run it through the paces a bit at first to aid with break in. It happens fast and you only get one chance. Don't run the shit out of it, but don't dog it either. Don't be afraid to get the rpms up a bit and maybe use the paddles.

This might be something related to your programming since you said some of your programming was non standard. It may not be compatible with your rig.

when reading about @KLA's issues with the autostopstart module, it reminded me of the following from the AE039 PITA part i installed:

Our switch-based design avoids all of the negative side effects because it interacts with the vehicle exactly as GM intended. Don't be fooled by the hacks that:
  • Require warranty voiding software changes
  • Drain the battery
  • Disable Active Fuel Management (AFM)
  • Keep the vehicle in "diagnostic mode" which disables the malfunction indicator light (check-engine light) and can interfere with airbag functionality. (Every GM diagnostic port auto start/stop device we've seen has this major flaw.)
  • Hack the battery management system
  • Interfere with remote start systems
  • Sure our solution may take a few extra minutes to install, but avoiding all of the negative side effects is well worth it.
Likely just a sales pitch, but KLA's issues with the other one makes me feel a bit better about the one I went with.

You might be right. It might not be compatible. But the only difference is that my truck doesn't have DFM. Just the Auto Stop/Start.
