Warm Greetings everyone. I've been reading blogs for various projects in the past, but this is the first one for me to post. Two days ago I purchased a 2024 ZR2 Bison. It wasn't what I was looking for, I just wanted a ZR2. The deal was good and my wife ( I know, right) pushed me into pulling the trigger. I traded my 2020 Z71 Silverado LTZ that had the Trail Boss package dealer added ( again, the deal was what lead me to letting them do it).
Already put 100 miles on it, through DC traffic and off road in Southern MD. Very happy with it. I took my N-Fab steps off my 2020 and slapped them on the Bison. They look like they belong.

I've always been one of those guys that just added mods way later than I should have. Like cold air induction. Looking for some guidance on which one. In the past it was always K&N, but the oil impregnated filter was identified as the reason my transmission failed on my 2009 Silverado. I only changed the filter to a dry one for the 2020.
What homework has been done?

Welcome 👍 Your wife sounds like a bad influence, you should keep her!

Unfortunately @securityguy is currently getting a bionic arm or I’m sure he would have already recommended an intake for you 😉 but the synopsis of his thesis paper is that none of the aftermarket intakes flow or filter better than the stock system, nor will they give you any added power or mileage. If you want to clean up the engine bay a little the Airaid Jr system is decent.

Welcome.

But I am concerned how a repair facility came to the conclusion that the air filter for the engine caused a transmission failure…. That sounds like fishing to get out of a warranty claim and hoping for someone gullible enough to believe it.

Yes, I agree. I don't see how the intake air filter can be connected to the transmission. Oiled filter or dry filter. Doesn't matter. Just don't make sense to me. If it was me, I would definitely be questioning that decision.

The truck had North of 100k miles of DC traffic as well as offroad towing on the weekends. The transmission shop (not the dealership) stated the oil residue from the air filter was covering the air sensor providing bad data. It wasn't shifting correctly for a long time.

Thanks for the info. I do miss the sound change on the air intake. So the Corsa CAI is just a dress up feature?

Sorry, but those steps dont look like they belong on there. It's an off-road oriented truck, need nothing, or sliders or high clearance steps.

The 6L80 didn't handle short shifts too well, which is what happens when the MAS gives erroneous signals to the ECM. Basically, because of the oil fouling of the sensor, the trans thought you weren't applying as much power as you really were and the trans short shifted.

Normally, the oil soaked MAS will throw a code, but not always. The new algorithms spot this type of fault earlier so the newer vehicles are more likely to throw a code long before you have a trans issue.

Unless, of course, the tranny reaches under the stall while you're pooping...

Exactly! It's only an opinion.

I have steps on my ZR2 so my mom-in-law, who has a hard time walking, can get in to my truck. Other people don't have to like it. Don't matter to me, cause I like the way it looks.
i have steps on mine, also, but not for anybody but my old ass. love them and can see where they're going to save the leather on the driver seat over time as instead of dragging my fatass across the seat when getting in it, i sit down on the seat.

Yep. I like my steps.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Left the Bakflip on my trade in (originally on my 2009, put it on the 2020), and bought a new one. Very satisfied.
Since changing the exhaust and intake will give minimum gains, I'll leave them alone.
Purchased the Comeup winch and mount from the dealership while they were 20% off. The mount is on back order, so a project for another weekend.
Tint is on the to do list as well.
Thanks for the trans discussion, very enlightening 😀

Been driving the truck (Clarice) for over two months, completely satisfied. Have not towed with yet but get it off road. Nothing over the top, just a private trail nearby the house. Needed the 4wd but no rock crawling or major mud.
Clarice has fit in most garages in DC and Crystal City. I know a few she won't fit in, so not even trying them. (My trade hade some deep scratches on the roof).

I have a project S10 blazer, a '71 Camaro, and a Harley Street Glide. So plenty of places to do some wrenching. Great to have that one vehicle that is a stand out in a parking lot, but only requires regular maintenance and cleaning
