Hi Guys,

So I purchased a 24 Slate Grey ZR2 Duramax from Copart. What can I say, The price was good. They say it hit a mailbox. Must have been a solid steel mailbox from the looks of the damage. I hope to fix it, and will document here.

Wish me luck, I'm going to need it !!!!!

I remember seeing a soccer moms Suburban that looked a lot like that after she hit my neighbors brick mailbox at about 35-40mph. She actually tried to drive away from it after getting out and seeing the pile she made. I guessed it wasn’t the first time something like that happened to her.

Hmmmm I see. Most Texas mailboxes are solid brick. It should be possible to do that damage. Thanks for the tip.

That's gonna be quite a project! If the frame isn't bent, you might get lucky. It's going to be hard to source parts. There are still backorders on a lot of parts for repairs. Maybe you can source some from the junkyard or eBay, but the prices on some of these parts is ridiculous.

Depending upon how much you paid, it might be better to part it out and make some cash for a running rig.

Frame itself looks okay as long as you tram the lower ball joints to make sure the wheel didn’t move back and twist the tower.

The front portions of the rad support can be sectioned in that Impact area. As long as the “upper rail” can be pulled and squared you should be good to go.

Strange the thing totaled. I would have fixed the shit out of that for a nice paycheck.

Good luck to ya!

I have already sourced a hood, fender and a headlight. Still a lot of parts to go yet. Mainly small things. I'm hoping for the best.

Insurance companies don't want liability. They just total most wrecks.

I'm not a body guy, but I kinda see 60-70 percent of resale value in parts and labor there...I understand why the insurance company totaled it. I don't doubt a body guy can can pull all that, but the insurance guy probably wrote it for a new frame (hydroformed)...Up went the price tag for that repair. How many airbags at price per...etc etc

Frames are relatively cheap especially after the insurance companies get their negotiated rates.

As someone who works at a high volume DRP shop. I can tell you it’s not the insurance companies.

We make that choice at the shop level. Lots of factors into it. Length of repair, condition of the vehicle, personality of the customer.

The friendliest person in the world becomes very unfriendly when that 30 day rental runs out.
