I think one thing Scout has going for it is VW and Rivian joint venture. Rivian has one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings of all EVs and have brought some unique design elements to the EV market with industry leading software. Combine that with VW cash and manufacting expertise, it has a lot of potential to be good.

You can already see some of this it the preroduction models. I hope they are finished with a little more rugged appearance, but they are on the right track so far.

I'm just really happy they will be made in the USA.

I actually appreciate the gas extender concept as well (the irony isn’t lost on me though too ) but hear me out!

It opens up more possibilities to meet real world use cases where EV almost meets the need - this would be a great option for my wife, daily driving the electric motor meets 100% of her needs until she goes to visit our daughter in college a few hours away. This option opens the door by surpassing the EV only range and not having to find a charging solution while she’s visiting. She can visit and make it back without having to screw with charging and take away from her visit.

The Scout is looking pretty good! They are just breaking ground on the factory, so it'll be a long wait. I'll be suprised if they can deliver for $60k, I'll bet they'll be $70-80k. Also they said they had way more pre-orders than expected, so they will take advantage of that too like Tesla has done.

Rivian has almost claimed bankruptcy a half dozen times. Look at the range on the new VW bus. Those two things alone would be enough for me not to buy one. The fact is, if you dont have the ability to charge at home, electric vehicles are not worth it. Charging will cost what a tank of gas does and it will take 20 times as long. Also, if you drive at night, the head lights will drop your battery by 10-15%. Add in hills etc. Electric cars are ok if you are willing to accept their limitations.
