GM can't build 6.2's fast enough to meet demand for new and broken ones

A company source confirmed to The Drive that right now GM can’t build components of its 6.2s fast enough to both meet the demand in new trucks and fix all the broken ones.

Oh Lord!!! They are building them faster now! That can't bode well for us poor ol 6.2 owners.

I think we had this gamed months ago. I'm pretty sure I posted about it.

What I really want to know is exactly why it's occurring and why GM can't prevent it 4 years later on vehicles with less than $5k miles? You know gawd damned well they've torn enough motors down to have an accurate diagnosis. But I guess we have to wait for discovery in the lawsuit.

These techs say the same thing I've said about poor machining in the block and oiling issues.

I had no choice but to get one of these time bombs for my 2025 Tahoe 4x4. The oil burner is not available on it until who knows later this year. At 500 miles will be putting in Amsoil and will keep my fingers crossed it makes it until this issue gets remedied or maybe trade it for a 26 oil burner late this year.

Know of 3 people, one my best friend who have had these engines go south on them.

I hope that’s all it takes. I put my Range in Sunday, and going to go change my break in oil (only have 825 miles so far) later today.
If one can be objective, take a step back from emotional investment…at this point we are a bit beyond this being the “answer” or greatly reducing the risk. It certainly won’t hurt but this isn’t just reducing “lifter failure” risk anymore. It sucks, it’s unfortunate, we all want to hope…but in the end, this isn’t just “forums inflating a problem”, GM has a decent problem on their hands.

Not gonna lie, I love my truck and I know they all have issues these days but it does make me question my choice lol.

Sad thing is this isn’t just a “GM” problem. Toyota has a similar casting / production problem and is changing engines too. Kia and Ford have issues too.

Thanks to government mandated EPA and mileage mandates. Corporate bean counters, crappy quality control and corporate greed this is probably the new norm🤬

Sad thing is the vast majority accept mediocrity these days. Not many of us left that actually have expectations and expect to get something for what we pay for.

I said a long time ago it was possibly machining in the blocks, for which the fix is much more difficult. If it was just bearings or cams they would have been able to replace those parts in the parts pipeline, but recently we've got brand new trucks on this forum with smoked motors at 5k miles.

I guess the GM bean counters still think its more economical to pump out these POS motors than to stop production and sales until it's resolved. That's how you know how bad they are screwing customers on the inflated prices of these shit boxes. These 1500s are worth about $55k tops new. AT $75K They can afford a motor replacement and still make money. The second motor makes them not profitable, but most will be past warranty.

I bet the warranty companies start charging a lot more, or exclude 6.2L motors, or just deny coverage soon enough......why wouldn't they?

First vehicle I’ve ever owned where I think about a possible catastrophic failure that leaves you on the side of the road with less than 20k on the odo. Should never even think about these things until you start closing in on 200k. I sure in the hell hope GM is learning some lessons from this. Aside from parts, the dealership labor is not cheap.

GM execs too short-sighted and worried about their bottom line in order to make investors happy, yet too stupid to understand that putting out a shitty product will ultimately screw their bottom line and investors via widespread costly warranty/recall issues.

idiots.

I’ve changed oil in his truck in 10,000 miles more times than I changed oil in my wife’s car in the past two years. Maybe it will help and maybe not? Certainly won’t own it beyond 36k miles unless gm rolls out a bumper to bumper 150k warranty to settle the coming law suit.
