Dealer Markup

I paid mine cash, salesman and finance manager were pissed. They didn't want to sell me the vehicle. Salesman came with a 4k markup when we had agreed to msrp minus incentives. I highlighted all the B.S. junk they were adding as they did bring me a itemized deal list and had them cross out all items i was not going to pay for, i didn't even pay for the 3yr mandatory onstar subscription which btw is 1500 usd. Ended up paying 4k below MSRP.
i ordered mine through the gm supplier website for the discount, and was paying cash. When it came in the dealer called me to tell me I had a vehicle ready for pickup and was not happy about selling it at the discount price. Kept talking about they could get 80k+ at auction and I told them it wasn't my problem, I was the only authorized purchaser of that vehicle and at the price it was when I ordered it. I tried to work with them and told them I'd finance at the 0% offered but they refused because I was already getting the supplier discount. Can't stand shady dealers, and what makes matters worse is I plan on buying a C8 at some point in the near future, but will not be going through that dealership.

Dealers definitely don’t like cash buyers anymore, they get a kickback percentage from the banks to finance!!! Cash unfortunately is no longer king!!!
What's even worse is if you are going to finance a vehicle and you get preapproved they don't like that because they want you to go through THEIR banks. A workaround for this is to just do it, pay the loan for 3 months, and then go through your pre-approval. The dealer still gets a kickback on the initial loan, but their bank is no longer making their interest off of you, and you can get your initial financing terms from your pre-approval if your lender still honors it. With the recent rate changes happening in a short time, it's a bit more risky now than it was, but food for thought.

I live in the desert southwest and my search was from East - Odessa/Ft Stockton, Texas to North - Santa Fe, New Mexico and West to Phoenix, Arizona. All stealer ships wanted "market adjustment". Places that said they sold for MSRP are also adding paint sealant, window tint, nitrogen in tires, etc for $2k-$5k markup. I contaced James Fillmore and he hooked me up. Even with the shipping cost from Michigan to New Mexico, I still came out ahead (under MSRP). If you are shopping for a ZR2 contact James. He is a good dude.

Dealers anymore don’t really care about “cash”.

If you walk in and advertise paying cash for a 70k+ vehicle they are even less likely to move. As you obviously can afford it.

Find a dealer that is advertising sticker or less. Only show your cards once you secure a deal.
Dealers make money on financing.

Well yeah the dealer makes more if you finance with them. That‘s why they will typically give you a better deal if you do. That whole I’m paying cash thing, does not help you. Actually just tells them they make nothing on the back end so they have to get more upfront lol.

That said, Most every vehicle I’ve financed, I did so through the dealer. Not because I had too. They just typically offer better rates. They often have specials rates going that are lower then local banks and credit unions. Heck I’ve gotten a few car loans at zero apr. My ZR2 is at 2.8% Banks at the time wanted closer to 5%.. If they can make a little more while giving me a lower APR, im good with it.

Yea, I am OLD school and have not purchased a "new" car in decades. Been just happy with my old 98 Ram that I purchased used. It has over 200 thousand miles and a 318 engine. It does not burn or leak oil. (probably empty:eek:).
It definatly "IS" showing its age and repair issues are overdue to start. I guess, if I must, I will finance it and pay it off ASAP.

Oh I understand, I've bought a number of vehicles, but most weren't for me lol. My previous truck was a 2011 duramax. Had it 11 years and was pushing 200k miles. I've got friends who Constantly trade vehicles. Seems like a huge waste of money to me, but to each their own. I keep mine till they cause problems or they get a little tired.

I try to keep atleast one loan. Unfortunately the way the credit system works. Not being active hurts you. I sort of look at intrest as paying to keep my credit score lol.
