So, we need more info. Can someone who is an insider find and post the TSB for this recall? I want to know what they are actually doing. I'm afraid that due to the volume of vehicles affected, they are going to just change my oil and filter and pretend it's all good...

I just had the 6.2 replaced in my ZR2. 2023 with 24004 miles. Spun rod bearing on #7 and all the remaining one were scored. Heavy amount of bearing material in oil pan. Diagnosis on my vehicle was done by dropping the oil pan and inspecting the bottom end.

Look at the video and article I posted in this thread from GM-Trucks.com. The only test will be scanning for code P0016 to see if the cam/crank is out of spec. Then you get an oil change, oil cap, and piece of paper with new oil specs to insert in your manual........also you get the green weenie!

^ yep this is all they are doing. Nothing special. They MAY replace 1 or 2 engines for this and everyone else gets a free oil change. Of course the ones already waiting on a new engine will still get those.

Havent we read that some got new engines and then they failed recently? If thats the case, how is the 2025 good to go? LOL

This was easy find and was released this month. Going to be more to define when the motor will be broken open. Sound like all vehicles in this notice/recall will be checked for the DTC code and if the sensor indicates a problem more information from GM is coming. That is the short of it along with oil change and fill cap for everyone IF there is no DTC code found.

From the GM Safety Recall N252494001 L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion:

Service Procedure 1. Inspect/Check for DTC P0016. 1.1. If DTC P0016 is NOT SET, continue to step 2. ZFAT N/A 1.2. If DTC P0016 is set, DO NOT proceed with the rest of the service procedure, quarantine vehicle and submit labor op 9107915. Vehicles that DO NOT PASS the inspection procedure contained in this bulletin cannot be sold or delivered to the customer. Additional information will be provided by General Motors in the near future. 2. Drain engine oil and install new filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement in SI. 3. Fill engine with NEW 0W-40 Oil listed in the parts table. 4. Replace the oil fill cap with the NEW 0W-40 oil fill cap listed in the parts table. 5. Print the appropriate language Owner’s Manual Insert(s) for your service area. 6. Locate the Owner’s Manual or Essential Operating & Safety Information (EOSI) Manual. 7. Install the Owner’s Manual Insert(s) into the Owner’s Manual or EOSI Manual.

The P0016 code indicates a Camshaft Position A – Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1) issue. This code is triggered when the signal from the camshaft position sensor does not align with the crankshaft position sensor signal, often due to misalignment or issues with the Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) system, such as oil contamination or a stuck solenoid.

Now on the GM document there is the mention of booking labor to labor op Code 9107915.

This document if you are a member of the GM controlled network can be found in the GM system. Further research of this GM system shows it is developed for warranty claims to show a general description or a very specific action. Just thinking about this with touch labor what it is it could be a valid end process to just replace the engine. Or possibly a partial disassembly to further inspect and possibly repair or replace?

Sounds like GM has just issued this the last couple of weeks note that this is revision od to this document showing there have been no revisions issued. If your vehicle does have the required DTC code, do they put you in another vehicle as further tests/information are needed?

Going to be a lot more on this in the future and this is just my opinion however, having been a part of this type of activity many times in the past on various military aircraft (Lockheed Martin Aeronautics). With as large as the population of engines out there and not knowing except from engineering estimates based on current failure analyses and computer failure modeling is a TBD still valid possibility? How many are going to require engine repair or replacement? If it were mine with 1k or 100k I would certainly expect a new motor! :)

This will most likely end up in a class action lawsuit like the one Hyundai faced and lost. They had the 2010 - 2020 Theta II GDI engine that would go tits up. Hyundai did everything in the world to keep from accepting responsibility for the failures, but in the end the courts ruled against them. To get an engine replaced is still a chore, but Hyundai is replacing them.

The 2025 is probably affected and will be added when enough of them blow.

Saw this on Reddit and it really resonated with me:

“It feels like GM has taken a very “go fuck yourself” attitude over the past 5 years.

Lifter failures? Ah we’ll only replace the side that actually failed, even though they are both from the same batch. We’ll keep your truck for 3+ months to do this, then 3+ months again when the other side fails. Go fuck yourself

Transmission shudders when coming to a stop, makes a squirrelly metallic noise when doing so? Ah thats by design, come back to us when it blows up on a road trip. Go fuck yourself

Camera doesn’t work at night? Constantly cutting out? Can’t reproduce. Go fuck yourself

Injector fails at 30k miles? Nah injectors aren’t part of powertrain warranty. That’ll be $1,900 per. Go fuck yourself

Control arms snapping in your off road trim? Thats wear and tear. Go fuck yourself

Excessive oil consumption? Come back when it blows. Go fuck yourself

Rod bearing/cam failures? We’ll swap your oil, call that a fix, then when it inevitably blows out of warranty you know what to do! Go fuck yourself”

There's some asshole right here on ZR2 Forum that's been saying this for 18 months. Some people get very mad at him and tell him to quit bitching or buy a Ford or Ram. Then they finally get tired of all the shenanigans and trade theirs for a BMW. Now they are all gonna change their oil and filler cap and have dose of copium!

Also the oil cooler leaking into the coolant, it's cool enough........go fuck yourself.

Brake controller not working, you don't need to stop that 10,000 lb trailer 3 feet off your tailgate anyway..........go fuck yourself

Whats bad is I actually had the brake controller one first before the service bulletin and I was the one who posted on here about the oil coolers leaking around 40k and I forgot both of those lmao

Tailgate latch dropping the gate on its own also.
Update hanging up and draining the battery overnight. (I had that one happen also)
Do we count the 1500s not being able to go in to neutral after the motor blows?
