2500HD ZR2 500 Mile Review

No way that 37's will work on this truck without major cutting and a lift..... My 35x12.50-18 BFG's almost rub now turned all of the way without even being in travel.
I've already done it with Toyo MTs 37x13.5R18. They would work fine if your weren't gonna run hard. I would like a little more clearance between UCAs, so I'm gonna run the stock tires and wheels for long distance towing. Gonna get some negative offset 9.5 inch wheels and run 37s for running around and light towing soon.

GM finally designed a wheel well with the offroad community in mind. You could run 38s with the right offset. They even jammed 35s on the new 2024 Colorado ZR2......looks great.....probably the nicest looking ZR2!

Just did my 500 mile oil change today. No issues underneath and just a FYI to everyone! Not all of the suspension areas were grease filled at the factory during the build. Have seen this before but is always something I check. No leaks and all is well now that I have my oil and filter installed. 5-40 Amsoil Signature and a EA011 filter.
I usually do mine about 1500 miles. I cut my filters open on my 6.2L 1500 and Tahoe and there was plenty of metal filings. Also oil looked grayish. Definitely good to get rid of factory oil early. Did you see any materials in filter and oil?

Doesn't surprise me on grease fittings. Mine appeared to be greased, but I should put a couple pumps in them. If you didn't grow up on a farm or construction you don't know how to grease fittings......LOL

LOL yes the oil was not completely black yet. Did not change it myself those days are over with. Made a big mess long time ago and my wife said no more. Long story short had a 5 gallon bucket cut to drain oil from my 7.3 Ford and got finished and forgot I did not move it. Yes 12 quarts down the driveway. Have done things at the ranch but the truck I just bring the oil and filter and watch all of it being done. Been using the same place for over 25 years.

The big tires may look good to some but to me they look like "mall crawlers" because they cannot drive offroad in anything but level ground pretty much. Went through that when I was a much younger man. My trucks are tools first and foremost but yes Like to look good as well.

I think 37s look good on lifted trucks like this HD ZR2. 35s look good on leveled 2500s, but I think this truck sits pretty big and looks better with more rubber. You can see the difference in this photo.

I don't hate the 35s, but I sorta wish they had something like a 36. You can get that with a 10-12 inch rim, but I don't care for that look.

Lots of lifted rigs of every variety around here. They go off-road better than most stockers cause of the clearance. They have some drawbacks like towing 5ers and accessing the bed easily. The best thing is driving in traffic and being able to see much better.

I love changing my oil. My favorite thing to do is crawling under there.

I did the free oil change on my 1500 and wife's Tahoe early this year and haven't slept good since.

You and I will just agree to disagree. Have had too many trucks and driven way too many miles where suspension travel is required. You are describing the perfect mall crawler. Looks are not that big of a deal to me because "looks" do not get you where you need to go and then back home again.

LMFAO...... I've never heard any one that drives off road say "I wish I had less clearance."

I don't know much about malls, but there is nice mule deer in places like this! Didn't hurt to have a little more clearance.

I planned to do my own oil changes on this rig after the complimentary one. Last week I called to get an appointment and after 5 minutes of hearing the service adivisor trying to figure out how to spell Silverado I hung up without saying goodbye. True story. Got mine changed earlier today myself. Think it’s time to find a new dealership if they can’t find people who know how to spell their own vehicles.

Your comment @AXE about the filings has me curious. Any tips on removing the element from the housing?

Well, I never said what you are quoting above nor was that my intent if you do not already know this. I am speaking about suspension travel and will mention articulation of the suspension. These terms all go hand in hand with the off roader maybe you need to look up these terms I do not know. After that comment it is pretty clear you are not understanding what suspension travel is especially when the wheels are turned.

I think the metal filings were normal for first change, filter did a good job of catching everthing. I was more worried about how much suspended gray sludge was in the oil. With that much super fine material suspended, the oil can't lubricate as well.

That's why I always do an early charge. Second one was at the dealer, I did the third and filter was clean and oil looked just fine.

I posted a thread with the filter cut apart if you want to see how it looked.

I just use the normal band style Wrenches. I also have the cap socket style and the channel lock pliers. Don't use those much.

Yeah, even the dealers have flunkies working the lube shop. My dealer is really good, so I trust them. I still like to do it myself.

I've been at it 45 years, offroading since I was 8. Modified everthing I've owned with a lot of offroad suspension. I've offroaded in 21 states in all kinds of terrain and conditions. Never had any issues, you have described. If you want it to work, you have to use good parts, install them correctly, and keep them maintained.

Here's my first offroad 4x4 that i ran when I was 12. I guess that's why I like bigger rubber to this day......closest mall was 91 miles away......LOL.

Wonder how you are liking the crow is it tasty?. It is hell to pull your pants down in front of the class. All of these pictures were taken from my ranch in SE NM. I have thousands of them everything from big mule deer to golden eagles to oil and water releases from the oil producers. Never play another mans game. ;)

Good job! Why can't you make the suspension work correctly on them? It's not hard like oil changes on your driveway!

LOL well the best way to handle this guy is to just ignore. Love that function sometimes. Hope it will be the last here I hate doing that. Thought this guy had some sense.

I'm not sure who you think your impressing, but it ain't me. We farm and ranch in ND and have all the same and then some, but we just go about business without the weirdness.

You know there's an entire forum of good information. Maybe try participating without being so desperate for attention.

So how small is that frack water pit? Doesn't look very big.

We've got this one that holds about 200k bbls. We're just finishing up construction on a new one that'll hold about 400k bbls.
