Wish I'd known after installing the range dfm disabler that it still runs on zero cylinder during coast, finding myself still running in L9.........is it just me? Kinda feel like I wasted money........ Does anyone know how to kill that coast mode? I like the cackle of the exhaust I put on.

Not sure I've noticed this, but haven't been on any real long highway trips since install. I thought mine was purring the whole time. I did run in L8 for a while on the freeway across town. I like how L8 sounds on my exhaust and I don't recall it dropping.

In D mode let off the gas above 30 or so and it sounds like the engine dies? Sound goes away and as you come up to a stop engine fires again, you probably wouldn't notice it if you have factory exhaust.......but if you keep it in L8-9 it stays running, the computer shuts down the injectors in coast mode to save fuel.........when you come up to a stop it'll be like BLURRR the last 10 feet.

Not sure when you purchased yours but I thought it mentioned it did this on their website. I believe you're talking about decel cut off. There is no way to stop that with the range module other than continue driving in L9.

Yeah I just installed yesterday, just giving a heads up, save your money and run it in D9...........should have read a bit more, didn't even realize it did the decel mode till a few days ago but had already purchased about a month ago..........

I’ve been running the DFM disabler for a while now. I’m not a fan of the cutoff but I am not going to run around in L9 either. It’s annoying to have to remember.

Very annoying to have the government make you push like 4 buttons before you can take off........not even a fan of seatbelts here, my 2020 chimed like 2 times, the 23 is like a nagging ole lady, PUT YOUR SEATBELT ON, PUT YOUR SEATBELT ON.........

That sound like pre DFM to me. Maybe call Range and see if they can trouble shoot it. Could be a faulty unit. I've got two of them and they seem to work and always be on. That's one of the biggest benefits I've seen is the responsive when backing off and getting back on throttle.

Love my range
Don't care about decel. Love the accel
And the auto stop delete
Went for a drive today and the immediate acceleration makes it feel like a real truck with HP
Worth every penny

Straight from Range’s website.

NOTE: Some vehicles may still engage 0-cylinder mode while coasting with this product installed. During extensive testing, it was found that completely disabling this function led to undesirable driving conditions and safety concerns. Disabling 0-cylinder mode while coasting resulted in a notable decrease in fuel efficiency, with a loss of 2-3 MPG, as the engine continues to fuel and fire the injectors even during coasting. This fueling also creates an unsettling sensation during deceleration, as it feels like the vehicle is still accelerating slightly, despite 0% throttle input. This requires harder braking, especially in scenarios like towing or descending a long grade, leading to undesirable driving conditions.

Nah it's just decelerate mode, when you have factory exhaust you won't notice it, with a aftermarket muffler it's silent as if someone shut it off on decel until it gets near a stop then activates the injectors, supposed to save MPG

Yeah maybe I have to get used to it all...........not very good at not getting what I want.......LOL

Yeah I read that but didn't know exactly what it meant........i do now, just have to use to it.....

I’m not sure why this is in the HD section, I assume we’re talking about 1500s?

The Carbyte module doesn’t do the coast-disable:

But the downside is that it doesn’t have much engine braking when going down hills. You’ll have to decide which you drawback you would rather deal with.

I have a Magnaflow exhaust. I know other people complain they don't think it improved anything, some seemed to have performance issues prior to installtion. It definitely did improve performance on mine.

I'd just pull it and send it back. Doesn't sound like it works on your truck to me.

Hey guys, Jacob here, Brand Manager for Range Technology. We're sorry if you were confused over the capabilities of our new DFM Module for the Refresh applications. We tried to share the information about 0-cylinder mode in multiple places on our website. Sorry it wasn't clear for you.

While we have the ability to turn off the '0-cylinder' function with our module, when we were doing our internal testing, and then when we had external beta testers in the field. We had an overwhelming amount of response of the negative side effects in drivability by turning off this factory feature with our device. With that info, we opted to leave the 0-cylinder mode active when our product was installed. Our device is disabling your DFM system 100% of the time, but under decel with no throttle input, the vehicle will enter 0-cylinder mode, which isn't your DFM system at all. The ECM is actually cutting fuel to all 8-cylinders so there is no combustion, it is not collapsing the lifters like DFM does.

Turning off the 0-cylinder mode had a major effect on fuel economy (most users lost 2-3mpg), you lose your factory engine braking feature (big deal while towing or coming down a grade), and the signal can only be sent after specific circumstances are met. The downside here is that until this signal is sent, your DFM, Start/Stop and 0-cylinder modes will still function like stock. For more light on this, the vehicle must be driven anywhere from 30-seconds to 5-minutes, and once that criteria is met, you must surpass 40mph, once those two criteria are met the device can disable all three features. But again, you'd lose fuel mileage and engine braking. So, if you're only doing around town driving and never surpass 40-mph, your DFM still works... and on top of that, those two criteria must be met EVERY time you start the vehicle.

Knowing all of this, we opted to release our product without disabling 0-clyinder mode until our engineers found another avenue that wouldn't create the negative side effects. We opted to offer you DFM and Start/Stop Disable all the time...regardless of driving conditions and paramteres.
