Replacing my Raptor, is the ZR2 up to it?

Hi All. I'm looking at a replacement for my F150 Raptor and in New Zealand ZR2 are sold as a new vehicle after they convert to RH drive in Australia. Can't get Raptors new here and I'm tired of a no warranty truck that has a massive price premium with it! So it appears to me the ZR2 might be what I'm after. Yeah a fair bit less power and heavier so a fair bit less performance but has anyone else made this change and if so what have you found? Don't get me wrong I love my Raptor but over here a ZR2 is about $60k cheaper so it's a serious option for me.
Further to that I've tuned the Raptor suspension to make it more Rally Car like with higher compression and rebound settings so sounds like the DSSV shocks will be similar to my setup.

Anyway and advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

There's some good Aussie video builds on YouTube. They might be your best source of what to expect and what kind of modifications work.

With a 60k delta, that’s no contest.

You can easily make a truck that far surpasses a Raptor for that money or one that gets close with a ton more power for tens of thousands less.

Raptors are much softer in suspension than ZR2’s. These trucks are more crawler than Baja. But with that kind of cash it’s all irrelevant. Especially since you modified and presumably will modify the next one regardless of what it is.

I can assure you that the Chevy can't hold a candle to the Raptor... except the interior is far more superior in the Chevy!
But as far as cost are concerned here in the states , I have a Gen one Raptor with a little over 100 k invested and for the Chevy to perform up to the same grade is over 140k!
The Chevy from paint to power is a let down!
Can't do anything for the Chevy with global "B"!
The Raptor on the other hand has 95 mm throttle body and full Stainless Works Exhaust along with a modified Valve train making at the wheels ,all four 508 hps and 528flbs of posi torque front and rear..! Oh and the Raptor with Icon 3.0s will actually haul ass on a Chevy...
I bought the Chevy to compete with the Raptor but so far i got nothing... 😂
My wife loves the Raptor more.

IMO the ZR2 isn’t comparable to a raptor. The colorado ZR2 is pretty capable but from the factory the Silverado 1500 is just a premium trail boss. Companies like Dirt King, Baja Kits, Pax Power, and the Fox Factory truck make it much more capable but you’ll use the purchase price difference to get it back into the league. The ZR2 is a good truck but it’s built for a different purpose.

Considering the OP is talking 60k delta to drive them away, I’d still set my money on a ZR2 being as or more capable for that kind of money.

60k is a ton of money unless your the person to drop it off somewhere and write a check. If that’s the case the argument is irrelevant.

I like raptors myself. Honestly you have the only one worth of shit outside of the new R. You can keep the 6 banger trucks.

You have what looks like a great truck and I do enjoy that generation of F series but Chevy being 40k more I think is a little far fetched. Chevys even with Global B are always less expensive than Fords. Sharing the engine architecture with other vehicles has its perks.

The 6.2 is a great motor but it’s ungodly expensive vs the 5.0 to modify. My buddy went through the game with his 6.2 Fx4.

The lifter argument is null and void at budgets approaching 6 figures in mods alone. Not a single engine component would be reused.

I loved my Gen 2 Raptor. I had a DSC controller that made it handle on the road way above its pay grade, and took nothing away from its off road capabilities. I went from that to my ZR2 Duramax. Without wasting too much breath on every detail of the transition, I'll put it this way: I was prepared to be really let down...a lot. What I've ended up with is an appreciation for the ZR2 I didn't think I'd have. No way is the stock suspension setup nearly as compliant or as capable as in the Raptor, and this translates into a significantly harsher ride, both on and off the road, except on certain washboard maybe. And the Duramax and 6.2 are down on power, no doubt about that.
But here's the thing. Apart from flying over the dunes and sending it at every opportunity, I don't think the ZR2 will ever have a problem getting to where I want to go, when I want to go, and how deep in the sh&t I want to go, as long as I don't need to do it at speed.
So yes, there are many things I miss about the Raptor, but after having both, as long as the industry can start getting serious about aftermarket support, I'll stick with the ZR2. Because it's closer to what I need, for me, at this moment in time. And although it doesn't look as aggressive as a Raptor, and call it just a feeling, but It's got some seriously unsung talent yet to be wrung out.

Could buy a 1500 and Colorado for that money!
