Ordering Questions for HD ZR2

At least yours isn’t a rust bucket. LOL. Still a little worried about it, but I’ll get it touched up and forget all about it.

AXE, wait a minute, I offered up the TSB and you want a $100 finders fee, something seriously wrong with that picture.

You passed the test.......LOL! Truck looks great, I like that color!
Haha. Thank you! We’ve had sterling gray on our last 3 trucks. I really love it. I took my Colorado ZR2 on a trail that got much, MUCH narrower the deeper in I got. Scratched the heck out of it and you can’t tell at all.

I feel like I should do a follow-up on this post! Sorry guys, I’ve been busy. For those that don’t know, I bought a used 2024 GMC HD 2500 AT4X AEV from a dealership in Iowa. The truck was certified and I was led to believe it was perfect… so I bought a plane ticket and flew out. The truck only had around 8k miles on it and had what I would consider a decent amount of rust on the frame from road salt. The wax coating was worn away in multiple spots and I hoped I hadn’t made a huge mistake as I drove it back to the West Coast.

Long story short, @22-ZR2 mentioned a TSB that they thought could help me. Once I got home I took the truck to my local dealership and showed them the rust. I pulled up the TSB for the frame rust and they said they would do “their best.” They only committed to fixing the spots that had a lot of rust. I was headed out of town for a week and told them to take their time. I was expecting a crummy patch job.

When I returned, I found out they sent the truck to their body shop to get the work completed (instead of having an in-house mechanic fix it). The truck and frame were FLAWLESS. I can tell they really took their time on it and essentially made it look brand new. The entire job was free and I’m super happy with it. The only problem I still have with the truck is the top of the shock tower has some rust, which I didn’t expect them to fix.

Thank you guys again for all of the advice and finding that TSB for me.

Glad you got it taken care of and glad the TSB helped. You may want to consider going back to the same body shop and see what they would charge to fix the other rust since they did a good job. It may get worse and I would always be worried about it. You may want to take a picture if you can and see what other members think. I’m not from a rust area so I can’t give you any advice.

Sure you are...You know, when it's January and that guy has icicles hanging off his junk and ten feet of snow outside, you drive down to Daytona, out onto the beach, plant your umbrella and chair, put on your sunscreen and enjoy the day. If you don't wash off that salt spray when you get home, you'll have rust. That counts, doesn't it? :ROFLMAO:

Edit: Wait, you're up in the big bend...Can ya drive on the beach in Mexico City, Panama City, or Destin?

You can buy a can of that wax spray and touch up the shock tower in seconds. It'll take you longer to mask off the rest of the equipment than to spray it. Don't spray it on the header behind the frame.
