NHTSA is investigating engine failures equipped with the 6.2-liter L87 V8 engine, giving GM until March 28, 2025, to provide information on a recall.

Today is the last day for GM to come up with a solution for all 6.2 Liters. For engine failure. Then unfortunately, I am a part of this waiting list. I have been waiting for two weeks now for a brand new engine on my 2022 Chevy 1500 ZR2 I hope GM does the right thing.

I personally don’t think that GM is going to blindly replace 900K engines. They’ll likely try to narrow it down to a small subset of VINs but that assumes enough data was captured at time of manufacturing and assembly of various critical engine parts. Will be interesting to see how this unfolds. Lifetime warranties for current owners at a minimum if problematic engines cannot be identified.

Id take the lifetime warranty for sure. Would have no more issues with driving it til the wheels fall off at that point lol

I’m waiting on a new transmission for my 2024 ZR2. 6500 miles and needs transmission. Absolutely ridiculous, building us JUNK products at record high prices! I’m seeing people wait a year for transmissions.
 
Just joined the unlucky club of those waiting for a new engine. 2023 with 18K miles. No real warning other than a crinkling sound 2 mins beforehand. DIC went crazy so I pulled over to the side of the road. Luckily was on a secondary road relatively close to home. They did put me in another Silverado at no cost but will need to change vehicles often to keep mileage low. Was told (but already knew) engines are backordered and could take 4-8 months. They did say I would get a "new" engine and not a rebuild.

On a secondary note, I was in a turn lane and wanted to put truck in neutral and push it into a neighborhood to get off the main street. Turns out the truck said "Conditions not safe for Shift" so there was not a way to get it into neutral. Did a quick Google search on how to get past this and it appears that there is no bypass. Anyone else run across this before?

Sorry to hear that! Hopefully it turns out to be less time. At least they got you a decent substitute.

There is a mechanical work around to get the truck in neutral. You essentially use a 10 mm wrench to force the shift linkage on the side of the transmission to shift the transmission into neutral. There are some videos on YouTube that show the process. It needs to be done carefully, especially if on uneven terrain where the truck could roll and crush you underneath.

Most tow truck companies will use skids and a roll back flatbed trailer to prevent transmission damage.
