Well my first mod is in the books. I added this nice black MBRP exhaust tip to cover up the bazooka tube. I ran this on my last Duramax and it held up well. Just sprayed it with some VHT paint to freshen it up every once in a while.

I'm not really done yet, I need to trim about 3 or 4 inches from bazooka tube so you don't see it. Then I plan to spray the exhaust tube and heat shield with some matte black VHT paint so I don't have to look at that discolered aluminum shit for the next 5 years.

Got her painted with some matte black VHT header paint. Pulled the heat shield, madked off the shock, wiped it down twice with acetone. Hit it with one light coat and two medium coats. Takes about two cans exactly to get a good coat on pipe and heat shield.

Still heating up the heat shield with heat gun to cure paint. Exhaust pipe will cure when running it.

Looks great, GM should consult with me before they pump out this crap! Before and after pics.

Very nice. I guess you could also have gotten it powder coated or a Duracoat kit they sell to do guns. https://duracoatfirearmfinishes.com/duracoat-beginners-kit

Hey @AXE - Would you mind sharing which mbrp exhaust tip you went with? Length, opening diameter, etc. Link if possible. Suspect it to be 5" inlet / 6" outlet / 18" length. I love the look vs. bazooka tube, and awesome that you were still able to keep the breather intact. Thanks,

I bought this one from Amazon, which I think is the same as your link. This is the 3rd one I've owned, but the powder coating on this one seems really poor quality. I have already gotten many 1/8 inch chips around the outside edge of the outlet rim
That's an odd place for chips, since nothing is likely to hit it.

I usually get rock dings along the side behind the tire over time, so I clean, prep, and paint it with VHT semi gloss paint occasionally anyway. But this one may require a full strip and re-powder coating if the paint keeps flaking.

@AXE - With your inspiration....
I followed suit! Love how it turned out. I had the tail lights lightly smoked as well. Thanks for the recommendations.

Excellent, looks good!

I like the light smoke on the taillights, how did you do it?

Thx! I've got a local shop that takes good care of me. I sent them over a few examples of what I was looking for and they were able to to replicate it with a couple coats of tint paint and clear coat on the tails. Here's the pic I showed them (attached). Almost no impact to the illuminated visibility.

Yeah I don't like them when they are too dark.
