Gm to stop selling 6.2 Ltr. trucks and suv's

The 2013 Camaro SS with the 6.2L took 5W30 oil and was 420hp and 426 Tq. When they bumped it up to 455HP/TQ in 2016 it still took 5W30. It wasnt til 2019 they went with 5W30 or 0W40. Same HP/TQ since 2016. GM never make sense in why they do shit.

The 2016 Silverado had a thermostat on the transmission. Previous years, with the same transmission did not have one. They did it to eke out a bit more MPG by running it hotter. It was nothing to see it hit 190+ just cruising. A lot "flipped the pill"so it no longer functions. Then it would run 140-150ish in the heat of summer.

Just all silly shit.

"The recall indicates inconsistencies in manufacturing tolerances that could cause premature wear or total engine failure. GM is advising that switching to thicker 0W-40 oil offers improved protection under high load and temperature, aligning with specifications seen in performance models like the Camaro and Corvette."

So the 6.2l is built at multiple facilities, although the article specifically mentions the Buffalo, NY plant as the source for the affected trucks. I wonder 2 things: is that true? If so, what inconsistencies in manufacturing tolerances are at fault? The process or the quality of parts?

If there really is only one plant making these, we wouldn't be able to discern which vehicle is liable to fail. If multiple plants produce them, it would be interesting to find out which plant had the highest fail rate and why...
Tolerances would be the same for both plants.

Going to order some oil for my 6.6 and will get some 0-40 Amsoil Signature for the 25 Tahoe. Still considering trading it and will think about it over a couple of drinks when we go out for dinner tonight! This really does suck! GM has known about this for some time! Bastids!

Admitting you had four years worth of engine problems won't help your case, but it should improve the plaintiffs and possibly the customers! At least they aren't willing to commit purgery.......maybe!

Somebody tell Dave tell the secret......he's about to have a drink and mull over his options cause his secretive sources didn't know this little tidbit that came about 3 days ago.

It was never a manufacturing defect. It was an oil spec problem. I’ll bet that all 25’s will be factory fill 40 and this goes away. Every 6.2 outside of the truck platforms (supercharged or not) has spec 40 oil. 20w was chasing MPG numbers for the largest segment of GM sales. The trucks.

CAFE no lubes the consumer again for turtles or something

My dealers service director/manager said it was delamination of the bearings. That's bad parts/defects. If it wasn't and it was just oil, everyone's motor would be smoked by now. There's some with plenty of miles stacking up, some nearing 60k. They got the good parts!

These rigs will be piling up for some time to come. Gonna be plenty more tears when the 0W40 team is waiting in the new motor line!

I got up off the couch and walked out to my 2025 manufactured on 8/24 and can confirm the fill cap says ow-20. I’ll bet that those manufactured 04/25 or later will be 40w like you stated.

Only if they stopped production to wait for the caps. Some articles said they did.

I popped the hood on a 25 ZR2 at the dealer Saturday, specifically to look at the oil cap. It still said 0W20!

These three young salesman were standing near me. One sauntered over and asked me if I was interested. I said not really, there's a recall on them and I'm not sure you could sell it anyway. He was bewildered. I said you and the other guys might want to start changing some oil if you wanna sell this truck.

Then I informed him I drove down in one of them to pick up another one. I said I had to buy two to keep one on the road. "Was that you that pulled up in that black one?", Yes they are both black. I had him laughing.

I told him they were fun trucks to drive, just not reliable for the money. I wished him luck.....there were several people shopping, so nobody's too concerned.

I’m not claiming for certainty that they will switch all future MY’s but bearing delamination 9/10 times is from metal to metal contact from improper lubrication or viscosity.

Any application that has high stress or shear load uses high viscosity oil to prevent it. The fact that a truck platform was ever spec’d with Honda oil is atrocious.

This isn’t some lifter conversation with bad parts, this is absolutely a choke of engineering. Warranty period targeting at its best. For those of you who don’t know, 6.2’s in the “performance cars” spec 50w for competition or racing use.

Wonder why that is?
