Here's a pretty interesting visits from Dave's Auto and Lake Speed discussing a lot of topics ranging from Engine Break-in, Oil Changes, Addituves Wear, etc.

As you've heard me say in many a thread, break in occurs quickly, quality fuel additives are good, and you should always do frequent oil changes if you want longevity!

I've watched a lot of that guys videos. Details he goes into are awesome. His videos is where I learned oil actually goes bad. I didn't know that. I assumed unopened oil didn't really go bad. He has a detailed video showing it does and why it does. I cleared out some old oil in my shop after watching it, lol.

Yep both those channels are pretty informative. I like seeing Dave's tear downs. Gives you a bit different perspective on how intricate these motors are and the reasons they might fail and why they last.

Fluid changes for the motor, radiator, brakes, transmission, transfer case, and gear cases are all very important. I really liked Lakes assessment on manufacturers recommended change intervals. That's why I never go as long as the manual says......it's all bullshit.

He also talks about factory recommended change intervals in some of his videos. Basically they are BS mostly. His take is manufacturers try to keep their scheduled maintenance intervals and cost down. It looks better on paper. But also their focus is getting past 36 or 60k, ect miles reliably. Not necessarily keeping the engine in the best condition as long as possible. There is a point of diminishing returns of course. Changing stuff way early is a waste. But he doesn't recommend the extended intervals most manufacturers have moved to now. It's interesting to see the science behind it all.

Back in the day my corvette mechanic and I had a conversation about oil changes as he thought I was having it changed to often. I asked him when was the last time you saw an engine blow up because then oil was too clean? The oil is the lifeline of any mechanical equipment.
