Coolant smell is slowly becoming annoying

Just hit 40k miles, and probably the best Duramax I have ever driven is starting to smell too sweet. No noticeable loss in coolant, and I know a pin drop of coolant can be noticeable in a hurricane. Most noticeable from the passenger side wheel well. Going to pull the skid plate when I get a minute, but I always appreciate any opinions. Never had a coolant issue on a Duramax in 1 million+ miles.

Hopefully it's not something big. Might even be covered under power train warranty. I had a water pump once replaced under power train.

40k, your getting shit done with that rig.

So in some previous model Duramaxes there was a common problem with the seal at the connection of the downpipe to the exhaust pipe. It would leak exhaust, especially during a regen and it would cause that smell coming from passenger side due to the connection in that location. Might be why your coolant level isn't changing.

Some people were able to tighten that clamp and seal it back up. Others had the seal/ pipe replaced.
