Air Lift Super Duty Bags Installed

Good update.

For comparison, we just towed shy of 8k lbs. with a hitch weight of an estimated 1100 lbs. for ~2800 miles. First shot with the bags (full auto air setup). Same experience with 5psi and no load - don't really notice a difference between this and no bags, maybe "slightly" stiffer but still an incredibly smooth ride. Most of the tow I used 10 PSI in the bags along with a WD hitch which brought us very close to level with a very smooth ride. Still fine tuning the WD and bags for this setup (Propride Hitch, Airstream 28) but I would call the trip a success with the bags. Soon I'll have a light camper in the bed so a few more adjustments will be needed when towing the trailer with camper installed. I did order a Helwig rear sway bar so I'll experiment with that as well. So, thus far very pleased with the 5k bags and full auto controller with tank.
Sounds like a good setup. I got a 28 foot toyhauler TT that weighs up about 13500 loaded. I use a WD hitch too, they make it perdect. Need to get some vacation time worked in soon so I can tow.

So... what's the alleged incompatibility @AXE?
Great question. Possibly that the bump stop axle cups need to be removed for install but otherwise I don't see any issues yet after driving several thousand miles with them in the 30 PSI range for my load.

I have 10k+ miles on Axe’s same setup, hauled campers, horse trailers, and other equipment for 50% of that. So far everything looks good, and rides great.
 
Good input, thanks. I had intended to purchase/install airbags soon in advance of a longer planned trip with 8k camper with relatively heavy tongue weight, but then paused when I read that on their site.

It's strange that the simple step of removing bump stop axle cups during installation would prevent compatibility in the opinion of air lift engineers.

No problems yet, and have towed double with poorly planned setups

I'm not sure, but if you look at my install photos, there are platic caps on the jounce base plate over the top of axle. Those have to be removed to get the clearance you need. So the bags sit on the metal base welded to the axle which is same as standard HD trucks.
 
I had my air compressor from the Wireless One kit go bad already. I went to air the bags up and no reaction. Checked fuse and it was burnt. Change 20 amp fuse and it blew right away. Changed to 30 amp, didn't blow right away and I could hear the compressor make some faint noises, then it blew. Jumped wires directly to battery and heat the same noise. I knew it was fried at that point.

I called Super Duty tech support and was on hold about 20 minutes. They basically said it was shot (no shit). Then told me I needed to file a claim on their website. I did that and needed to provide proof of purchase. Two year warranty if customer installed, four year warranty if you have a shop install. I told them that was bullshit cause I do better work than any shop I've ever seen.

The second day, I got an email that it had shipped and got it a few days later.

It was just the compressor which had to be swapped to the c Wireless One chassis. Wasn't hard, but a little hard to do when mounted tonthe truck frame.

New one works, but they seem like some low rent shit if they don't last 6 months. My last three lasted forever and the truck my boy drives is now 11+ years old.
 
Also asked the tech why the compressor would kick on for a very brief moment every 20 or 30 minutes. I knew it wasn't leaking cause i checked all the fittings. They said to unhook the pink wire that runs into the fuse box. I said I thought that was relay power. They said no, it wasn't needed. I thought that was weird, but haven't looked at it yet to verify.
 
Yeah that's not great. But if it's been kicking on every 20-30mins that could explain the short lifespan some. It's probably a pretty light duty compressor.

The older ones I've had had the smaller self contained compressor and last along time. The only time I would hear them kick on was in the morning at start up when bags were cold and occasionally if it needed a psi or two after a longer drive.

My Dad has the smaller style compressor on his Ram and it also kicks on a lot, I couldn't find a leak on his either. His are about 3 years old.

Like everything else, manufacturing issues are prevalent and what was once good and reliable, may never be again.

I might do an autopsy on this one and see why it siezed. Maybe not enough oil.

This is what the install direction say about the pink wire. Its only needed if you want you bags to top off when ignition is activated vs while motion is detected or remote adjusted.. I don't think my previous systems worked this way. I may do some testing and see what happens.

I haven't had the issue with my new pump coming on briefly and frequently. I think it was due to a bad wire. I got to looking at the old pump and I figured out there was damage to the wires about 1/4 inch from where they exit the pump (see photo). The positive wire seems to be cut through and possibly broken. I could make the pump work intermittently by moving the wire, but that would need to be addressed to be reliable.

I am almost 100% sure this damage was done during manufacturing or packaging as the cuts align almost perfectly with the base of pump. I think they were folded over the base when packed and then pushed hard and cut through.

I don't think it was anything I did with respect to install, as I can see in my original install photo (circled in yellow) that the wires exited perpendicular to the motor and away from the pump without interference.

May want to double check the wiring from pump and manifold harness when you pull it from the box. Probably a rare occurrence, but would have saved some headches.

I might see if I can fix the wire and keep the pump as a spare.

Definitely looks like a packaging issue. Have seen this before on electronic products purchased for work.
