There isn't a piece of heavy equipment made that uses a snorkel as standard equipment. The intakes are up high cause the motors are several feet off the ground. They aren't going to avoid any dust, because they are designed to produce dust, a lot of it. They use multi component air filtration systems to clean the air before combustion. Most likely there are at least two filters (e.g., an outer and inner filter) on each intake and there may be more than one intake. I've changed and cleaned plenty of them. Sometimes the outer filters are so good, the inner filters hardly looked used. Filters can cost hundreds of dollars for this reason.
If you think that snorkel gets you cleaner air when your driving down a dusty road following two other rigs, then I've got a bridge to sell you.
I live in a desert and drive in dusty conditions all the time. I'm impressed how clean my filters are when I inspect, clean, or change them. We don't have a dust problem with modem filtration.
