I did the same and then every 5K miles.Pretty much by the book - I personally agree with the first oil change being "early" (I did mine at 1000 miles) and then a reduced interval for subsequent oil changes (5000 miles for me).
Yep. I like to refer to it as a "spirited" break in. Don't dog it, dont rod the shit out of it, but run it through the paces a bit.I followed the manual with the added step to constantly vary the throttle for the first 1000 miles, no cruise control until after that. My step dad (RIP) was a GM and Toyota/Lexus mechanic all his life, he had been working on cars with HIS dad under the shade tree since the model A/T, he could take a long screw driver, place the blade on the block and the handle up to his ear and diagnose an engine issue by the sound, he was a pretty amazing mechanic and he suggested that varying the throttle was better for the engine break in because it allowed more pressure differentials in the cylinder to help seat the rings as opposed to constant speed/RPM driving, he said the increase in pressure and back pressure was a good thing. IMHO/YMMV
Oil changes are way overrated. Some folks go 30K+ on their oil changes and their motors still runWait, you’re supposed to change the oil?
Not that I would ever recommend this, but, when I was younger I had a friend that actually NEVER changed the oil in his 1982 Chevy Capirce. He just kept adding oil to the full level when it was low. He sold that car, still running good, with 240k miles on it.Oil changes are way overrated. Some folks go 30K+ on their oil changes and their motors still run![]()
Yep, my Dad always talks about guys that never changed oil. Ol Harold had so much money he would just trade every year and never put a wrench to it!Not that I would ever recommend this, but, when I was younger I had a friend that actually NEVER changed the oil in his 1982 Chevy Capirce. I usually trade my vehicles every 2-3 years. It works out pretty good that way. My vehicles are always in very good condition and with low enough miles that the dealer gives me enough for the trade to pay off the existing loan and usually have a bit extra for a down payment on the new vehicle. But I like this ZR2, so I might end up keeping this one for a while as long as the motor holds up.Yep, my Dad always talks about guys that never changed oil.
