Pretty much by the book - I personally agree with the first oil change being "early" (I did mine at 1000 miles) and then a reduced interval for subsequent oil changes (5000 miles for me).

I did the same and then every 5K miles.

They clearly haven't consulted me regarding field testing for proper break in and oil changes. GM hasn't produced any data to back up those claims of lugging that motor around and running 7500 mile OCI to prolong engine life. The only thing they are interested in.prolonging is their stock price and executive bonuses.

I followed the manual with the added step to constantly vary the throttle for the first 1000 miles, no cruise control until after that. My step dad (RIP) was a GM and Toyota/Lexus mechanic all his life, he had been working on cars with HIS dad under the shade tree since the model A/T, he could take a long screw driver, place the blade on the block and the handle up to his ear and diagnose an engine issue by the sound, he was a pretty amazing mechanic and he suggested that varying the throttle was better for the engine break in because it allowed more pressure differentials in the cylinder to help seat the rings as opposed to constant speed/RPM driving, he said the increase in pressure and back pressure was a good thing. IMHO/YMMV

Yep. I like to refer to it as a "spirited" break in. Don't dog it, dont rod the shit out of it, but run it through the paces a bit.

it's really no different than you doctor nowadays. If it isn't in the manual or doesn't pop up on the computer there isn't many mechanics or doctors that could diagnose an issue. Teaching is the same, just some curriculum some academic came up with that said this will make kids smart, but they can't math and science to save their asses, but don't worry AI will make it all better.

Our engineers and technicians got sent to the field a lot to see how shit got built and operated and maintained. We weren't allowed to sit in the office and pontificate. Now they want to sit in the office,, get paid $150k, have their student loans forgiven, and run charity events to up the social credit scores.

Meanwhile we're driving shit around that we don't know if it'll make it to our next destination without a tow truck. But "it worked on paper".
