ZR2 -- A Rarity?

I live in a small Missouri town, 13k people, there are 5 1500’s, 2 2500’s, and a few Colorado zr2 variants that I know of. There are certainly more Trail Bosses by a long shot but I wouldnt call zr2 “rare” per se.

I suspect it’s partly to do with where you live/what folks are into. Colorado mountain towns seem to have more Raptors than people as an example 😅

Here's the current inventory of ZR2s on their website. 1500+ and 315 Bisons. So approximately 20% are bovine (that's a big herd)!

I'd say another good chunk are AT4X rigs.

Everytime I see one its like the spiderman meme. I think there are 3 in my general area in northern Utah. The raptor is the offical bro truck of Utah County down south so those are EVERYWHERE. And the braptor is the official white mormon mom rig so those cant stay on lots either. I am totally ok with being not normal.

Crazy. At times I would think more, but also less. Like someone else said, TB’s are a dime a dozen (I had one, ha). I see Raptors everywhere (2 are in my cul-de-sac). My bro-in-law has a contractor white TRX. Father-in-law, 2500 High Country. I like being different as well.

They aren't really rare. Less common for sure. I've seen probably a dozen 1500 ZR2s around my area. I've only seen one HD on the road so far. Dealership had a HD on the lot last time I was by there. Was discounted 4,300 Right on the sticker.

I agree, in order to TRY and keep mine in my driveway I take 2 relays out most nights, the fuel pump and starter relays, I also switch it to 4 wheel drive once parked and ALWAYS apply my E-brake, so even a key clone won't get them much but inside the cab unless they have some relays with them and know where to look and what to do to disable everything I do to stay a little safer. If they want it, they will likely have to drag it onto a flatbed, hopefully that will wake me up and I can get some target practice in from a covert location I have set up overlooking the driveway.
@HighTechPauper

You're making life difficult for yourself. Go get yourself the ultimate9 evcx right now. It has a lock mode that immobilizes the throttle pedal, truck can not be moved. You can lock/unlock it with a removable controller, or via ultimate9 app on your phone. Truck will start but won't move until unlocked by the app/controller.

It's the only throttle controller that has that feature as far as I know.

Think about it. With the 200k or so trucks GM sells a year, 1500 is not that much. Maybe not "rare", so to speak, but definitely not common. I like being different.

In some states doing the target practice thing will get you a ticket to the Grey Bar Hotel. Spend a lot of time in NM but live in Texas. CRAZY of how much the laws differ when it comes to the use of deadly force.

It's like a few others have said, I"ve seen a butt-ton of Raptors, quite a few TRX's and very, very few ZR2's / AT4X's. In my area of East Tennessee the Raptor's and TRX's are the go to bro-dozers. I've had my truck for a year and haven't seen another Glacier Blue ZR2 on the road.

So, before I got my truck (November), I'd never heard of a ZR2 (neither did my 16 year-old kid). Granted, I was a Ford guy, so I didn't really look at Chevys; however, it's not like I purposely ignored them.

Now that I've had my truck for several weeks, I must say, I'm more apt to notice other Chevys. Having said that, I've yet to see another ZR2, and I commute 40 miles each way, daily.

Are these things more of a rarity? Or, since there are so many freakin' trim packages available, do you think people shy away from these, in general, because of the cost?

Just curious on y'all's take.

I still remember seeing the original ones. Wanted one when I was kid. They made a Blazer version as well

I had yellow one (not mine in the picture) , it was a great truck! Ironically, the radio had to be replaced. But very few issues on truck. I think the only other fix was replacing a 4x4 actuator.

Was probably one of the first in the state to get one back in 2022. It was a solid year before I saw another truck.

Now I see one every few days or so. But it’s nothing like the TB. That truck is absolutely everywhere.

If they are willing to take their chances trying to steal my truck, I am willing to take my chances and let off a shot to scare them away, if they want to tell on me they can go ahead. I wouldn't fire on unarmed people, I would set off the alarm on the truck remotely and see if that drove them away. I don't want to kill anybody, but if they show up armed they have it coming.

Well just so you know that would be considered a show of deadly force. If the perp had a firearm, it might not turn out well. The old "warning shot" this is a very iffy term and depending on your state could be a problem. Might want to review this article it is accurate as far as the information provided. You need to do a little more research before thinking this is the right thing to do as it just might cost you money in legal bills. I know but kind of sad it is getting harder and harder to protect your property.

They used to hang horse thieves!!!

Your Right! I Owned an Original One. It was My 3rd Chevy S-10. Mine was exactly like the red one pictured but White. They started making them in 1994 on the Chevy S10 and GMC Sonoma models. In 1996 they started making the Blazer ZR2. I always wanted one, figured it would be a Bad Ass 4WD with the short wheel base... Jeep has pretty much owned that market since I remember.

I’ve seen more ZR2 Bisons running around in Central Florida than I have regular ZR2’s.
Wow... my initial reaction to that was surprise, but i guess there is a higher density of high income folks in FL than in Wisconsin... so in retrospect, I guess that makes sense.
