Who's been there done that?
Not looking at VIP passes
So many ticket choices around the track
Also hotel recommendations

I went for two years. Loved it.

Definitely sit on Turn 15. You can see the hard braking from the long straightway and see 5 different turns. Sit somewhere I circled below:

The higher up you sit, the better visibility you have.

You also MUST go to the "Handbuilt Show". It's a fantastic show of rare and custom motorcycles.

I stayed with a friend that lived in Austin, so no hotel recommendations. I also rode his bike to the track, so parking was easy and free. If renting a car, its paid parking and may be a hike to walk.

Parking is no longer free even for bikes.
We waited too long to try this
Hotels are sold out. Told to stay in Bastrop not far away. $520 for 2 nights
Least expensive part is getting into the track.
Airfare, rental car, hotel, isn't working out on short notice
Pics of the track looks like a great place to watch
Thanks for the help

Bummer you're not going as it's a great event, yeah people from all over the world travel to watch it.

Just for clarification for the future... Motorcycles park free on lot H. What you see as "cycle corral" means you get a souvenir and able to ride one lap on the track at a leisurely pace. I can see why it's a bit confusing.
