Has anyone tried this or knows anything about painting shock reservoirs? I am concerned that it could hold to much heat in getting the oil too hot . Thanks in Advance, Jeff

They're similiar to the HDs with the weird plastic wrap, right? I wouldn't think that paint would hold up well on it.

Paint on shocks doesn't effect the function.
I rebuild most custom shocks, ICON, FOX ect.
Most are steel body powder coated and plastic dipped to prevent corrosion. Some are all aluminum.
Just do not apply paint to any moving parts such as shafts and bearings!

Just use spray on plastic dip! It's fairly durable so long as you don't tear or cut it. I've had an emblem on the front of a 2500HD for 10.5 years. Still solid, just a bit faded.
