Well, I rotated my tires and decided to throw my spare in the mix. When I went to relearn the sensors I didn't get any response from the spare, oh well so much for that!

For 75-80G you would think they could atleast put a TPMS in the spare… The 5 tire rotation is the best…. All these big automakers getting too cheap, I would even pay the extra if it was on the option order sheet… Just stupid on their end!!!

It's probably because the software isn't set up for a spare TPM. Every truck from base to ZR2 probably use the same software. ZR2 is the only model to include a factory wheel/tire as the spare so be happy we at least get that.

Yeah, I'm definitely happy about that! Last year I blew a rear tire on my '21 Trail Boss when we were on our way back from Florida. I put the spare on and when I would make slow turns the rear would lock up and hop around the turns. The spare was that much smaller to cause the g80 to engage. Needless to say I had to move to the front when I got home until I was able to get it replaced.

I totally agree with it coming with a full size spare, that’s AWESOME.. I’m only saying I wish it could have been an option when placing an order.. 5 tire rotations are the best..

I guess we can be thankful that the spare tire isn't baking in the sun. The spare on my fife's Jeep Rubicon bakes it the sun every day.

Yeah, 5 tire rotation would have been nice for sure!

hey all. Got a flat yesterday and slapped oj the spare and ran into this issue. Decided to just keep the spare on permanently, is there a way to add TPMS to the spare? Or should I just go back to the original wheel with a new tire?

You have to drill a hole in the side of the tire to access it...Preferably using a hole saw with fine teeth so they don't get hung up on the steel belts in the tire. And when you buy the part, don't use the factory glue that comes with it....JB Weld actually works so much better for this application.

I'm pretty sure there is a much better way to do this, but to access the directions for that task, you must first post a photo and introduction to yourself in the forum, at which time the mods will allow you to see that thread containing those directions.

@MrScottly Your coffee is way better than mine.

@erymk7 Have a tire shop either put a new TPMS in the former spare, or move the old one over. They’ll need to do a quick program with a new one less than 30 minutes at the shop probably.

How many miles on the tires. If you add one and replace the tire, you can do a five tire rotation. You’ll only want to add it in the mix if you’ve got relatively little wear, and I would put the new tire in use right away.

I had to use my spare a while back for a few days. I ended up just putting the regular wheel back on and put the spare back under the truck. You can add a TPMS sensor to the spare. Sensor is around 60 bucks. You would have to unmount the tire to add it. I've got no interest in doing a 5 tire rotation so I didn't bother. The truck can't monitor 5 tires at the same time. So having one in the spare would only be useful if you plan on doing a 5 tire rotation. Besides, I'm only worried about the pressure in the tires on the ground, not the spare anyway. The way tpms sensors work, it wouldn't monitor the spare anyway. You can buy a Tpms relearn tool on amazon for like 10 bucks. That's what I use when I do a rotation. They actually work really well.
