Oh that’s a sexy machine right there. In my riding days I always had a thing for naked bikes. I had quite a few bikes over the years but this 2006 Yamaha FZ-1 was by far my favorite. I rode this one 45,000 miles before I sold it in 2016. I still regret it.

I had a 2002 FZ1 with an Ivan's jet kit, carbs balanced, and Yoshimura exhaust. I could hit 158 mph on it, but it was rung out. Lots of fun on that bike. Rode with a bunch of FZ1 guys for about 5 years.

Went on to Ducati after that, which fit my dirt bike background better. Ran it on the track and through the twistes, which is where it belongs. 70 mph wheelies and it was smooth as silk. I passed a Corvette once riding a wheelie up a hill on a curve. That bike tracks so well it just cornered like it was on two wheelies. My buddies couldn't believe it, they thought I was nuts.....LOL.

The first gen FZ1’s were a force to be reckoned with. I tuned and dialed in 2 of them in college. Glad to hear there is someone else that appreciates them. The torque curve was insane after the Ivan treatment. With the right sprockets it was hard to keep the front end down in anything lower than 4th gear lol. Talk about comfort… riding on a couch smoking vettes all day long. 🤣

I didn’t want to deal with carbs so I jumped on the second gen so I could play with electronic fuel mapping. Triple digit wheelies was nothing to this machine. I was so close to R1 cam and head gasket swapping….. funds just weren’t there in college.

I went with a WR450 as a second bike to scratch the off road itch. Street legal enduro, the FZ1 almost always stayed parked once I got the WR. It was too much fun!

Yeah. I like the looks of the second gen FZ1 better, but long trips in the 1st gen were nice.

I had WR450 and it was awesome, one of my all time favorites. I now have a Honda CRF450RL, which is a little tamer and suits me better with age. My boys still say "the ol man is crazy"........LOL. They ride too, but much tamer.

I used to work in a trauma center. Most of what we saw in the Neuro Wing were motorcycle and diving accidents. After seeing what I saw for two years, I will never own or get on a bike ever again. And today, drivers are FAR worse than they were 30 years ago.

It's a risk sport, I've had a few rough get offs. But I've been busted up more playing football and fighting than I ever have on my bikes.

I don't drive on the street much anymore, cause everyone is on their phone or distracted. I ride in the dirt or country mostly.

Nice bike!

Another first gen FZ1 fan and previous owner here. I bought mine (black 2002) from a guy in Florida. I found it on Cycletrader.com - 1-2yrs old, 3k miles on the odo, a few tasteful accessories. Flew to Tampa on Southwest first thing on a Saturday am, was back in Houston Sunday night (~1100 miles)! I did the Holeshot jet kit and pipe, bought the mercury tubes & balanced the carbs, removed that emissions crap, etc. It was a very smooth bike with plenty of power for me. But, as @AXE mentioned, too much distracted driving, etc and had too many close calls, so I sold it and gave up street bikes.

Cool to see several other fans of that awesome bike here!
