1996 -- as an 18 year-old, spoiled brat, I got my 3rd vehicle; it was a red extended cab Z71. It was a demo with 6k on the clock. One day a few weeks after ownership, I took it through some mud. Afterwards, it was bathtime. While washing underneath, I was like, "Hmm, I thought the Z71 package had skidplates? Hmm, what about the upgraded shocks?" Turns out the truck was being driven by the dealership owner's son. He took off the 4X4 stickers and put on Z71 stickers. My dad didn't get what he thought he paid for and he was pissed. Long story short, they ended up installing all Z71 upgrades onto that truck.

Second Silverado was an '07.5 in, wait for it, August 2007. It was a "must-grade" because I had a 350Z and a baby on the way. At about 61k-62k, there was the lifter issue. Dealer didn't want to fix it, but after lots of back and forth, and some letter writing, they made it right. Sold it and got a F-250 because it wouldn't pull a 23' Wellcraft Coastal.

Fast forward to last week, I found myself outta my '16 F-150 Lariat, and into this '23 ZR2 with 38k miles.

Luckily the truck came with a few "perks":
  • Folding bed cover
  • Fancy airbox upgrade with a glass topped box (forgot brand)
  • Borla exhaust
  • Bedrug (who DF puts carpet in a bed -- especially $500 carpet)
  • Power running boards
I got my old Kicker 600.1 amp installed Tuesday to push my one JL 10TW3 and I ordered the Range Technologies DFM delete yesterday. I also ordered several of the jumpers for headlight mods. Lastly was LED tag bulbs and reverse bulbs. I'm going to order some 1.5" Bora spacers once I get some more "play money." Besides all that, I think I'll be pretty satisfied with it.

Anyways, lots of good info here. As a former F-150 owner, I didn't know that all of these 6.2's eventually blow up.

Y'all take care and have a Merry Christmas!

And age-old question that I cannot answer. :ROFLMAO:
I mean, it's nice 'n pretty and all, but I'm still kinda perplexed.

When I opened the tailgate at the dealer, I was honestly like WTF?

My 1st thought was to take it out and put it in the trash the next time I took the trash off. Then I looked at Amazon and saw the price.

2nd thought -- sell that crap for $250 (half price)

3rd thought -- after seeing that it's weatherproof, mildew proof, blah, blah, blah, I figured what the hell. I'll just keep it back there until I tear it up and trash it afterwards.

I mean, IT'S A FREAKIN' TRUCK! I take my trash off. I live in the south. It gets HOT! There are bugs. Flies lay maggots in the can, and those little bastards usually fry in a truck bed. Not anymore -- they're gonna lay down on a nice bed rug!

What about when I use my tailgate as a sawhorse? Where does all the sawdust and chips go? Into the Velcro-like carpet, of course! (Maybe the chips will stab the maggots, since I can no longer cook them to death?)

I will say, I'm going to add some weather stripping to my big wheeled trash can. Maybe, just maybe, I can keep the flies out so I don't need to clean my trash before I put it in my truck.

Just like any accessory - there are some folks that find a use for it. For me, my kids shot trap for a combined 10 years. It's pretty handy to have a cushioned rug in the back when you have 6-7 kids hanging out back there for the better part of a day. Easy on shotgun stock and finishes so no need to pack up guns in cases between rounds - they can just lay them down. I have hauled a lot of things that otherwise would have gotten scratched to hell with a spray liner. It resists a lot of things, and cleans up well. Vacuum it out, or even zip out the bottom and go wash it. Just my experience.

In that case welcome! 👍

I’m another one of those smucks who put carpet in the bed, not the whole thing, just a mat. For years I’ve thought they were silly, but I will admit that it’s way easier on the knees and stuff doesn’t slide around or get scratched up like with just the bedliner.
