I like on star, but it's optimistic on oil life. I think these computer driven calculations are not very useful. They would mean 6-7 k miles, which is a lot for a higher performance motor. Especially in high heat or severe use environments. If you watch Project Farm oil tests, he heats oil up and they all lose steam and turn pretty dark. They will lose effectiveness over time. My 5000ike laboratory tests still looked OK, but it's starting to lose ground between 3500 and 5000 miles.

I would rather wait for the free service when they rotate tires too.

I had my first oil change done short of 1000 miles. My service advisor told me good call getting the first one done early. I guess it’s different at each dealership.

Shoot, after reading all y’all’s stuff I changed mine at 850 miles. Everything looked good, didn’t see any shavings in it at all. I didn’t open my oil filter, but I’m sure it was all good. I put the 0 20 Royal purple in. So far so good.

You took it out too early, probably didn't break in right!

I'm just shitting you......but the process does need some time to work. I'm not sure there is really "break in oil" used anymore, but it used to be. I do think it's used still on motorcycles. That's why I run it a bit longer. But the dirty oil cannot work well when it's green from the aluminum. It's no longer thin enough to flow good and get into tight spaces where parts are floating on .001 of a film of oil.

The way I dump mine to see what's in it is by using a long pan with a gentle slop. The contamination will push off to the sides and that is where you'll see it. If you drop it straight into a pan, it'll just sink to the bottom and the "good" oil will cover it up. It's really noticeable on motorcycles. I broke a couple dirt bikes in last summer and the oil was pretty bad after 1.5 hours of run time!
