GM Steps Or Rock Sliders?

Are the GM steps or rock sliders any good? Any input and photos will be appreciated.

Personally I love the high clearance steps. They don't hang down, plenty wide enough to get a good footing and the coating on them seems very thick. They are very solid and don't flex, but they are mounted to the body not the frame. So don't expect them to serve as rock sliders.

Yep. I have zero complaints after 6500 mi with plenty of miles having fun.

I have to agree with the high clearance steps, they look great, and no issues whatsoever (other than my wife thinks they are too high and she’s 5’-10”!!)

Mine came with the rock sliders. I pulled them off for some AMP auto steps. Should be here this week.

… but that means I have unused sliders if anyone is interested.

The high clearance steps from GM are very nice but there are much less expensive alternatives out there that are just as good. Look into Go Rhino RB20 steps if you want spend about half of what the GM ones cost. I had them on my Trail Boss and loved them.

I have the GM optional rock guards. They’re not true rock rails, as the only mount to the body, but they’re sturdy enough to take hits that the seam welds would take, otherwise. I’m probably not the best person to ask because I’m 6’11 and can step in and out of the cab without steps with no issue, but my wife is 5’3 and uses the handles to get in and out. Plus the rails can easily support body weight, they’re just so close to the body that they’re not much help as a step.

I just installed Go Rhino Dominator DSS Slider Steps on mine. I love the way they look and that they're not very wide and don't stick out too far. The step is small though. I don't use the step so it's not a big deal for me. They are adequate enough for my wife.

I wouldn't say just as good. The GM High clearance are wide enough to be functional and stop rocks from chipping the side. Additionally you lose ZERO ground clearance, unlike others out there.

The ones I mentioned do exactly the same thing. I know because I've owned both. They're a fantastic alternative for the person that doesn't want to spend over $1k for high clearance steps.

Dude, the RB20s are as wide or wider than the GM high clearance steps. Are you confused and thinking that I'm talking about the DSS sliders that I just installed? I had the RB20s on my Trail Boss and they're definitely as wide or wider than the GM high clearance steps.

A guy I work with had a Colorado with high clearance steps. I always found myself tripping over them getting out as it made the door sill much “wider”.

I’m sure if it was on a truck I own, I would adjust my exit to compensate, but I half fell out of the truck more then once do to the step being so close to the rocker I ended up half stepping on the rocker.

Being such a “high” step in my opinion it was sort of useless for the indistinguishable difference of stepping on the baby step and into the truck.

I have an order with Rocky Road Outfitters for a set of their extended sliders which can double as steps. A month wait for fab but will update once I receive them.
