Luckily no one was injured when a lady decided to run the light when we picked up our son from work. Never had a wreck before so now gotta deal with figuring everything out. Damn sucks. Pictures aren’t the greatest. Was damn cold to stand out in it for an hour in shorts though.

Sorry to hear this, had almost identical happen to me a few months ago. Took Chevrolet 5 weeks to repair and total cost of repair was $14K. That included restoring my ceramic coating, trimming my bumper for tire/wheel fit and restoring paint protection. Diminished value determination by the other person's insurance (GEICO) was $2K after all repairs were completed.

When they do diminished value, how does that work? I hope that it screwed the frame somehow and they total it. Im sure they wont but would be nice if they did. Id get a totally different color if I could. As long as they give me a rental truck for the duration, I guess Ill be fine but damn 5 weeks sucks.

Im actually surprised none of the air bags deployed in either vehicle.

There is a formula you can google, percentage based. By the formula, mine was closer to $1300 but I negotiated up. They make you sign a forever release of liabilty after you take the payment.

My bags did not go off either, almost identical hit. I made my claim with the other party’s insurance to avoid a rate increase. They treated me well to include a rental

I could not drive, the hit pushed the bumper in to my tire just enough to eat it when you turned. I was able to limp home but not driveable.

Got it, so negotiate for higher. :)

Yeah looks like the hits are damn near identical. I could not limp home, it had to be towed. You could hear the tire, or something, popping as it tried to move. I wont be able to get the report til Monday or Tuesday to get anything started. I dont have any of the ladies information. I do have a lovely video if her insurance co wants to argue about anything though. Gonna try to get GM to repair it and demand OEM parts too since the truck is still under warranty. Not sure how that will go.

On the OEM parts, that is exactly why I went to a Chevrolet dealership. Not sure of the status now but for mine, the long poles were the bumper, a harness and scheduling the ceramic coating & paint protection restorations. The wiring harness that was damaged ate up over 2 weeks waiting time.

Didnt look like any harness was messed up since everything still seemed to function. Granted Im not expert. Hope during the repair they do not make note of my DFM disabler lol. Not like I could take it off now for sure.

That really sucks, people are such idiot drivers. In Florida the Florida Highway Patrol doesn’t even classify it as an accident. Their reports are listed as a “Crash Report”. Good luck on a good repair.

Yeah I know, that is my biggest issue with it. Im OCD as hell so if something isnt correct, Ill know and be like yep nope gotta fix that. Im upside down on the truck so not like I can just go trade it away or anything.

Left frame rail moved. Tow hook shows that clearly. It will have to be pulled or the front frame section replaced if it’s kinked.

Just preparing you mentally that you won’t have the truck for at least a month. probably closer to 2 months.

Sorry to hear it.

So youre saying the frame is no longer squared etc?

Shouldn't they total it if thats the case? I sure as hell dont want a compromised vehicle where something is not as good as it was.

impossible to tell if the entire frame is diamond, front section is kinked or the rail end can be fixed. Bumper needs to come off to see what is going on. (Good tell is the finger test between the cab and box)

If the frame is diamond, they will put a frame on it. I just did a 2021 custom. Trust me they will do it.

If the front section is compromised, the frame is cut off in front of the shock towers/engine mounts and a new section is welded in.

If the rail end can be fixed it will be pulled and repaired.

Frame damage is a phrase that is tossed around without context. If the area of damage does not affect the track of the vehicle (IE the strut tower moved) they can be repaired just fine. Whether or not you would want the vehicle back afterward is a different conversation.

They end of the day, the truck is worth too much money and they will fix it. I’m hopeful the rail end can be repaired and you can move on.

Excellent description from a professional.

There's a guy on YouTube Bendin With Bendon. He's got a great channel and repairs big rigs with bent frames. It's amazing what he's able to fix. Seen some really twisted up frames come out straight with his frame machine and no cutting. Sometimes they cut and weld too.

Thanks for the explanation. I have always just thought that any damage to the frame and you walk away. Didnt want something that would compromise performance or safety. Guess all these years of thinking that way has been incorrect.

Sorry to see another ZR2 torn up by idiot drivers.Glad you are all ok. It took my insurance company 10 weeks to total my 2022 with a bent frame and locked up motor. Hell of a fight and glad my dealer went to bat for me. Hopefully your ordeal will go smoother.

Yeah it's a damn shame. Lady was like I didnt even see the light. I was looking at the other one that was green. Granted it was 50+ yards away. Worse still, she didnt even slow down when she had to see my big ass truck.

Hopefully it wont be too crazy. I will call the PD tomorrow to see if the report is complete then I'll call her ins company to get the ball started. Also will take a trip to the tow company lot tomorrow to pull everything out the back of it, tools etc.

Would hate to have seen what happened had we been in the wife's Wrangler.
