so my silveraydo zr2 now has around 1800 miles on the odo. i noticed a considerable thump in the rear end around a thousand miles ago, give or take, typically when driving over light bumps and turning one way or the other (rougher terrain makes the thumping even worse). FYI, that's when i noticed it, not necessarily when it started. i've done some googling and reading and it appears that it's likely "worn or defective leaf springs". not saying that's it, but that's what appears to be the likely culprit. i finally called the dealership this morning and setup an appointment. the service lady told me, "yeah, leaf springs are a common issue with these trucks, we'll get it in, check it out, and get it repaired." great, that makes me happy, going to get the issue resolved. no problem whatsover with that.

what i do have an issue with is that while researching this issue, it appears this has been an ongoing issue for several years, i.e. 3 or more. what in the hell is GM's problem when it comes to determining there's an issue (leaf springs, engine bearings, lifters, etc.) yet they continue to put the same garbage crap parts on new inventory knowing they'll be getting them back for warranty repair at a later date?? is it cost effective to the point they'd rather put the junk parts on vehicles to get the defective parts used up and out of inventory knowing they're getting whatever percentage back in for repair/replacement??

The profit margins are so inflated on these trucks and consumers are willing to pay, so there's no incentive not to pump them.out and put the oneous on the consumer and dealer to fix it. Wall Street likes profits above all else. Need DOGE to fix it!

Hey everyone says “Buy American”, for what?! Ain’t no one doing shit to change! Yet, here we are buying this crap spending our hard earned $ on something that we feel looks good and are proud about, just to get bent over again and again. It’s like we are saying “thank you sir May I have another!” Lmao

That is a business model I did not take into account because it can’t be sustainable long term.

Another reason I am trading mine in when my ordered BMW X5 comes in. I have had enough with the software and electronics issues. I love the truck, but not all of its issues. My Wife has a 22 X3 that has been bulletproof!

Some of it is just logistical. Just like the lifter situation. It may be “bad practice” and I will agree as a consumer. It’s shitty. But if you order 1,000,000 leaf springs built to spec for production orders you can’t turn the faucet off to fix every issue. For prospective, I have the same leafs and in mine (and lifters) (and main bearings) etc. you all do. No problems. (Knock on wood)

All production would have to stop and wait on an “X” fix. GM instead proceeds as normal and factors warranty failure rate into the cost of the vehicles.

Unfortunately it’s what happens at the scale of production that turns out for consumer demand.

This isn’t just GM. It’s every single car brand. It’s easy to pitchfork and say “this brand is shit” when they all are shit.

Buy what you like. They all break.

They should throw in a pitch fork with each purchase!

agree 100%. only reason i harp about GM is that's what i own. i long for the good ole days when i didn't have enough money to afford a pot to piss in, let alone an $80K truck to bitch and moan about, when i was just a chevrolet fan, and it was fun to hack on ford and dodge.

The best time of my life was when I had the least amount of $. Everthing is simple and more fun then.

You are lucky, my wife had a '22 X3 plug in hybrid that was pure garbage. Spent the first few months at the dealer because the batteries had trash in them and had a tendency to explode. (They did give us a nice M3 to drive around in so that was a plus, I guess). We literally traded it within 6 months of getting it back. We probably should have lemon-lawed it. The only good thing was we've bought 4 BMWs from the same dealer and they made use a great deal.

The BMW hybrids have had issues. The X5 plugin hybrid has its share of issues. Stayed away from those!

Not all of them are. Had 5 (3 were full up M's) and no more. The secret to driving one is Never keep one out of warranty. Daughter had a rear main start a slight leak 5k out of the mileage part of the warranty a X7. No help from BMW. So rather than spend 8100.00 they traded it for a 2025 Esclade.

Have had issues with every One save the x5 comperition model. Next time I go Porsche again. Car was ugly for maintenance but never had any issues!

Toyota just recalled 158k Camry's and supposedly they are the best you can get. Their shit is going downhill fast. Only brand left standing is Honda.
Seems like everyone's is. Wish we could get back to people giving a shit about their product being the best not just about the most gadgets that dont work.

update: muh son took the truck to the local dealership (45 miles away) this morning. got the first service completed and they checked the thumping: driver side leaf springs are bad and need replaced, parts ordered.

gotta give props to the semi-local dealership. i didn't buy the truck there, they couldn't get one when i wanted it and couldn't/wouldn't compete with the deal i got on this one (which surprised me, see below), but the service lady has been extemely nice and helpful and indicated she didn't care if i bought it there or not, she said she'd treat me the same as though i had. i did buy the '24 that blew up there, though, and will likely buy more from them in the future. likely helps that i've authorized the purchase of 4 or 5 company vehicles from them over the past several years. it's just nice to work with someone who at least acts like they care.
