I’ve been on a 1500 mile trip and I’m about to head back home. Before I left on my trip I had the oil changed and the dipstick showed full. I checked this evening (truck had been sitting for over two hours on level ground) and the dipstick mark is about 1/2. My question is how much oil should I add.? My guess is about a quart.
Truck is a 2024 ZR2 1500 3.0 Duramax
Thanks!

I think add 1/2 quart, warm it up, shut it off for 10 minutes, check it again!

On my 6.2L ZR2, it doesn't always read full, so I add another 1/2 quart. My wife's Tahoe 6 2L always reads full after the recommended 8 qts. On my 6.6L diesel ZR2, it also doesn't read full after 10 qts, so I add another 1 qt.

Not sure why, but these dipsticks are random. I like to have mine full after an oil change, or your not gonna be able to track it.

Thanks! I’ll give it a go!

May not be relevant to your situation or motor, but one thing I see others say on the 6.6L Duramax is that if you do an extended drain, it will take more oil. I assume oil trapped in the lines and such has a little more time to work it's way to the bottom. Most of my drains are 30-45 minutes and there doesn't seem to be much more dripping, but a little.
